Joyce Murerwa is a seasoned global Public Health and Nutrition expert with vast experience in strengthening in-country capacities towards palpable public health and nutrition outcomes, through strategic and technical guidance in the design, implementation and evaluation of integrated, contextualized and evidence-based policies, strategies, plans, programmes and initiatives. Among tangible contributions to policy influence in the African continent is the establishment of a virtual platform for coordinating national level policy discussion through cross-country and multi-stakeholder learnings and exchange. This involves close collaboration with policy influencers and development partners to support the application/adoption of the learnings towards actual policy changes for accelerated public health gains.
Joyce has worked in development settings, led response to public health and nutrition issues in refugee settings, and developed policies for nutrition, education, and disaster management in various countries, while holding different positions in the United Nations (UN) and INGOs.
She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health & Epidemiology (MPHE) and BSc (Food, Nutrition and Dietetics). She also possesses a range of professional qualifications from the John's Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, North-West University, International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), International School of Agricultural Sciences - Hebrew University, University of Sussex (IDS) and London International Development Centre (LIDC).
She is currently working with Amref Health Africa as the Global Technical Lead/Expert to strengthen in-country capacities and influence systemic change towards health systems strengthening.
