Nandita Saikia is a lawyer based in India who is interested in the commercial and legal aspects of engaging with the arts and cultural artefacts, a field into which her interest segued from her commitment to human rights and a desire to see the rights of indigenous artistes, particularly women who are especially vulnerable to exploitation, be protected. She has contributed to academic scholarship on copyright and art law, and has been widely published in the media on socio-legal matters.
Nandita's human rights expertise lies in issues related to violence against women, a subject on which she has had a book published, and has led to her developing an interest in the formation and implementation of policies to counter domestic violence, to enhance workplace equity, and to facilitate equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Prior to embarking on a legal career at the Office of the Additional Solicitor General of India, Nandita gained experience in a variety of fields including journalism, publishing, policy development, and teaching. She is adept at handling complex copyright matters, and is associated with a law firm where she practises media and art law.
